    The resort at a glance

Red Deer Resort & Casino is owned and operated by O'Chiese First Nation, which acquired the property in October 2020. The hotel building opened over 50 years ago as the Capri, later became the Sheraton, then the Cambridge Hotel. The casino had its grand opening on September 8, 2023, and opened to the public at midnight after a VIP event. A new event centre tower went up that year on the north side, where two bars used to stand. Hours differ by zone, so the table below gives slots, VLTs, tables and poker a line each.

Age and ID at the door

Guests must be 18 or older to enter the casino floor, in line with Alberta's legal gambling age of 18. Casino staff must check valid government-issued photo ID for anyone who appears to be under 25. The resort does not publish a list of accepted ID, so a valid government-issued photo card is the sensible thing to carry. The Casino Restaurant, in the centre of the floor, does not admit minors.

      Online play in Alberta

Alberta's regulated online gaming market launched on July 13, 2026. The Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC) manages the market, and AGLC regulates it. Play Alberta, at PlayAlberta.ca, is the province's own site, run by AGLC. Any operator can be checked in AiGC's directory at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites, and one missing from it is not regulated. The legal gambling age in Alberta is 18.

This guide's paid links, marked Ad, appear on its home page and lead to a private online casino partner. That partner is not PlayAlberta.ca, and the guide earns a commission from it. The partner can change over time, so its name is not given here. Checking it in the AiGC directory works the same way as for any other operator.
